Amazon Echo Dot with Clock (2020) review

Image
The Amazon Echo Dot with Clock (2020) was announced alongside a host of other Echo speakers at the company’s hardware event in September 2020. Jump to Price and availability Design Setup Smart assistant Audio performance Should I buy it? Like its predecessor, the Echo Dot with Clock (2020) can double as a bedside alarm, albeit one that comes with all the smarts of Alexa on board alongside the ability to control your smart home devices (via a separate Zigbee-supporting speaker).  It has undergone a rather radical design overhaul over the previous Echo Dot with Clock , sporting a space age-esque spherical design that's available in both gray and white color schemes.  All the features of the previous Echo Dot with Clock remain, including a 3.5mm AUX-in port, and the blue Alexa light ring – although this is now located at the bottom of the smart speaker rather than the top.  (Image credit: TechRadar) Aside from the design change, there isn't an awful...

Amazon Echo Dot (2019)

Image
The Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation) was Amazon's most popular smart speakers – and while it's since been replaced by the Echo Dot (2020) and the Amazon Echo Dot released in 2022 , it's still well worth considering. Don’t let the size of this diminutive gadget put you off. Amazon claims that the Dot is the best-selling speaker of all time – a massive achievement and a testament to how useful, and relatively affordable, it is too. The Echo Dot we’re reviewing here is the 3rd version of the smart speaker. The 1st generation model was launched back in 2016 and it’s had a number of updates since, including the Echo Dot with Clock (2020) and the Amazon Echo Dot released in late 2022 with an audio upgrade - we'll be publishing our review as soon as we've tested it.  Some of these upgrades will be appealing for people. but the third-gen Echo Dot sans time display and without an audio boost that we’re reviewing here is still absolutely worth buying and one of our most...

Vornado VFAN Sr. Vintage review

Image
One-minute review Prior to testing the Vornado VFAN Sr. Vintage, this reviewer was under the impression – much like a lot of consumers, we’re inclined to think – that the bigger the fan, the more effective it is at keeping a space nice and cool. And yes, on some level, that is true. You can’t very much expect one of those cute pocket-sized travel fans or a personal desk fan to keep the heat at bay for your entire living room, can you? However, we’ve also pretty much given up on our massive obnoxiously loud yet absurdly ineffective floor fan this summer and just had the AC running all-day, all night. Until we tested the Vornado VFAN Sr. Vintage Air Circulator, that is. This small adorably-retro-looking fan, which is not even as tall as our old fan’s head’s diameter is wide, might be a little more than what the average consumer would spend on a fan. In fact, considering its size and its trimmed-down features, its asking price of $179 in the US and £215 in the UK might be a bit much. ...

MiniTool Power Data Recovery 2022

Image
Load up MiniTool Power Data Recovery and you may not be impressed by its relatively basic interface – but spend a bit of time with this data recovery software and you’ll find plenty of hidden power. Power Data Recovery can hunt down photos on inaccessible partitions, crashed operating systems, formatted drives and from images you’ve deleted on conventional hard disks and SSDs, and it goes into more restoration detail than many of its rivals. Combine its skillset with a decent free version and some relatively generous pricing for the paid upgrades and you’ve got a tempting photo recovery tool. To help keep all your media secure, we’ve also tested and rated the best photo cloud storage . MiniTool Power Data Recovery: Plans & pricing Decent pricing and a reasonable free version - but avoid its monthly subscriptions  If you opt for the free version of MiniTool Power Data Recovery, you’ll access an app that can work on an unlimited number of PCs. The free variant has a me...

Asus RT-AX55

Image
Asus RT-AX55: One-minute review The Asus RT-AX55 fits the bill nicely if you’re looking for an affordable router to provide a good Wi-Fi 6 upgrade for your home Wi-Fi. Its top speed of 1.8Gbps is relatively modest compared to some of the more expensive Wi-Fi 6 routers that are now available. However, it will still be more than fast enough to handle most home broadband services and able to provide fast, reliable wi-fi for web browsing, streaming music and video, and some casual gaming.  Along with its dual-band Wi-Fi 6, the Asus RT-AX55 provides four Ethernet ports for wired connections. There’s an easy-to-use app to help newcomers get started, as well as a web browser interface for more advanced users who want greater control over their network settings.  And, if you need to extend your wi-fi even further in the future, the Asus RT-AX55 can be used as part of a mesh system with other Asus routers too. Asus RT-AX55: Price and availability How much does it cost? ...

A brutal journey through the life of a Hollywood icon: Blonde review

Image
Blonde: key information - Available now on Netflix - A fictionalised retelling of the life of Marilyn Monroe - Based on Joyce Carole Oates’ novel of the same name - Written and directed by Andrew Dominik, of Chopper and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford fame - Knives Out and No Time to Die’s Ana de Armas stars as Marilyn Monroe There’s a certain irony that Netflix, one of the most significant disruptors in movie history, should bankroll a film so steeped in Hollywood legend. Marilyn Monroe’s all-too-brief life may have been over by the time Sean Connery first introduced himself as “Bond, James Bond”, or the Beatles released their debut single, but she remains one of pop culture’s greatest icons, arguably more famous than any of the films she appeared in. For more than half a century, Marilyn has transcended traditional notions of celebrity, a star who – like fellow 2022 biopic subject Elvis Presley – is recognizable simply from her first name. She’s...

EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard 2022

Image
EaseUS is one of the biggest names in the world of data recovery software , and its Data Recovery Wizard has been around since 2005 – so, after such a long time, you'd hope it's a top option when it comes to photo recovery. Its set of features certainly suggests that it'll get the job done. It can hunt through conventional hard disks and even damaged operating systems for photos, and it supports more file and device types than virtually every rival. It's even got a generous free version alongside powerful paid options. For added security, we've tested and rated the best data loss prevention services and the best photo cloud storage solutions .   EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard: Plans & pricing One of the more expensive photo recovery choices, and without good free options  There's no doubt that EaseUs Data Recovery Wizard has a good range of features, especially if you want to hunt down and restore photos or videos – but you'll have to pay for the ...

Hands on: Bowers & Wilkins PX8

Image
Rarely does a set of flagship headphones on a coffee table induce double-takes across the TechRadar team, but then, the B&W PX8 is no regular flagship headphone – and Bowers & Wilkins is no regular audio outfit.  It would be easy on paper to regard the new PX8 as spruced up versions of the recently-released PX7 S2 , but Bowers & Wilkins chose to stagger the releases and focus on each as very distinct, separate beasts – and now, we know why.  Ah-inducing looks aside, the star of the show here is actually the driver configuration, because the PX8 differ from any B&W cans that have gone before it. And oh... can we hear the difference.  But look at us getting ahead of ourselves! As a little precursor to our full star-rated review, what follows is our initial thoughts on the Bowers & Wilkins PX8 wireless over-ear headphones for build, features, price and of course sound quality.  (Spoiler alert: it's good news.) Release date and price PX7 ...
