Shokz's OpenFit Air headphones are perfect for open-air running

Image
Shokz OpenRun Pro 2: One minute review The Shokz OpenFit Air are probably the best running headphones for people in the 5k to half-marathon distance bracket who want to be able to hear their surroundings when they train and race. Offering a very reasonable 6 hours on a full charge, the battery life will get most people through a full marathon, too, although more expensive Shokz options give double the playtime. Open-ear headphones like the OpenFit Air sit around and over your ears rather than in your ear canal like the best wireless earbuds . This pair is particularly light, at just 8.7g per bud, and you barely feel them on when you're jogging along a bumpy country lane or doing burpees in a virtual class. The design incorporates a flexible silicone ear hook, and this holds them securely in place without creating any pressure or discomfort during long listening sessions. While they fit a wide range of ears and sit alongside glasses, the open design won't be for everyone. ...

I tested the affordable Polaroid Flip for over a week – its unique design and signature prints impress

Polaroid Flip: Two-minute review Like many tech journalists and photographers of a certain vintage (aka born in the early 90s), I always remember there being a Polaroid at family parties when growing up. Later in my teenage years, when studying photography at university and trying my hardest to be cool, I bought a secondhand Polaroid Sun 600 on eBay, but finding decent film then was harder than it is now. Eventually, the cost superceded the cool, and I gave up. Polaroid has come a long way since then, and has been revisiting its heritage with the aesthetic of newer releases. We had the Polaroid Go 2 in late 2023, similar in looks to the Polaroid 1000 Land Camera. In March this year, the brand refreshed its Now instant series with the Now 3 and Now 3+ , cameras that I think share the character of the original OneStep SX-70. I'm a Polaroid nerd, so I was excited to test the new Polaroid Flip before its official release. But given that the last camera I used was the flagship Pola...

Strava is still the best training app for runners and cyclists, but it's getting expensive

Image
Strava: One-minute review Did a workout even happen if it's not logged on Strava? We've been using the smartphone app to track weekly miles since it launched in 2009. Yes, there have been periods in my life where I haven't run at all – just before this review, for example. But when I am ready to pound the pavements again, I find it hard to imagine not using Strava. Strava is part-fitness app and part-social platform. You can record and review activities, then share them with friends for "Kudos" (similar to giving a "like" on other media platforms). Run, Bike, Hike is the app's motto, but there's support for over 50 activities, including kayaking, swimming – great for triathletes – and yoga. You can track activities using the GPS on your iPhone or Android device and get time, distance, route, estimated calories, and elevation. But using Strava on the best fitness tracker or the best running watches (all the major brands are compatible) eleva...

Hasselblad 907X CFV 100C review: modular, medium format, magnificent

Image
Hasselblad 907X CFV 100C: Two-minute review The Hasselblad 907X CFV 100C is the Swedish manufacturer's latest mirrorless medium-format camera, offering an ultra-high-resolution sensor and phase detection autofocus (PDAF) in a surprisingly lightweight design. It's got to be one of the best professional cameras for landscape and portrait photographers who work slowly and deliberately, and it harks back to a more 'traditional' approach. Joining Hasselblad's modular system lineup, the camera is comprised of two halves: the super-thin 907X camera body and the CFV 100C digital back. It's an upgrade on the 907X 50C which launched back in 2020, and as the name suggests, it brings double the megapixel count with a huge 100MP back-illuminated CMOS sensor. The 907X CFV 100C shares the same sensor, 16-bit color depth, PDAF, and XCD lenses as the Hasselblad X2D 100C , but it enjoys a completely different design that allows photographers to use the CFV 100C digital back ...
