Seagate FireCuda 540 review: showcasing the power of PCIe 5.0

Image
Seagate FireCuda 540: 90-second review The Seagate FireCuda 540 is one of the first high-profile Gen 5 NVMe SSDs to hit the market for those who are running one of the best processors for gaming and best motherboards that are PCIe 5.0 compatible.  It’s more than just a successor to the widely popular Seagate FireCuda 530 from a couple of years ago, though, it’s a drive that shows you exactly what the next generation is capable of, but at a cost.  The greatest cost will be to your wallet, because this flagship Gen 5 NVMe SSD carries a particularly high MSRP regardless of where you are in the world. That’s because current motherboard support for Gen 5 NVMe SSDs is limited to the most recent AMD CPU generation with socket AM5 and the current crop of Intel LGA 1700 options. You’re paying a pretty penny to be an early adopter without factoring in the cost in, ultimately.  Speaking of cost, the Seagate FireCuda 540 currently retails for $189.99 (around £150 / AU$300) fo...

Logitech Litra Beam LX review - dual functionality at a premium

Image
The Logitech Litra Beam LX is the next iteration of the brand’s gaming light bar aimed at streamers. It builds on the foundations of the original model by adding ambient RGB lighting for a competitive price point. If you’re looking to step your streaming gear up, it’s a good choice to pair with some of the best webcams and one of the best green screens .  It effectively doubles as both a ring light and RGB light strip in one, and the included stands mean you have a lot of different mounting options to suit your setup. However, if you’re solely interested in a light bar without this feature, then the original, far cheaper Litra Beam, may be a better choice.  Price and availability The Logitech Litra Beam LX launched on September 19 in countries such as the US and the UK and retails for $149 (approximately £120 / AU$230). For comparison, the original Litra Beam currently sells for $99 / £99 (around AU$150), so you’re paying about 50% for the added RGB ambient lighting. ...

Logitech Yeti GX review - a great-sounding microphone for streamers

Image
The Logitech Yeti GX is the latest microphone aimed at gamers and streamers from the company as the next iteration of the tried-and-true Blue Yeti before it. With its compact design, stellar stand, decent RGB lighting, and intuitive controls, it can easily be considered one of the best microphones for streaming and one of the best USB microphones , however, there’s little new here to blow anyone away.  Few USB microphones are as well established as the Blue Yeti and this new take carries the torch toward with the signature sound profile, ease of use, and metal construction. If you’re after something plug-and-play that sounds decent then the Logitech Yeti GX could be the microphone for you.  Price and availability The Logitech Yeti GX launched on September 19 in territories such as the US and the UK for $149 (around £119 / AU$230) placing it in the mid-range of USB microphone offerings. For context, that’s around the same price as the standard Blue Yeti before it, and com...

Pimax Crystal review - undeniably powerful, but unfinished

Image
The Pimax Crystal VR headset’s mission statement is to deliver the “ultra VR experience” for enthusiasts looking for the next step in immersive gaming. Armed with an exceptionally high pixel count, glass lenses, external tracking cameras, and even the option for an all-in-one mode, in theory, there’s enough under here to rival some of the best VR headsets . However, this one isn’t quite ready for prime time just yet.  However, factoring in the high price tag and the slow roll-out of promised features, the Pimax Crystal currently feels like a product that’s still in development to beta testers rather than the be-all-end-all PC VR and standalone solution that it could be.  Price and availability The Pimax Crystal is available for $1,599 / £1,699 (around AU$2,500) which positions it as one of the most expensive consumer PR headsets available. As a frame of reference, this is around the same cost as the Meta Quest Pro when it launched and comparable to the HTC Vive Pro 2 wit...

Kingston Fury Beast RGB DDR5 review: pretty and powerful

Image
Kingston Fury Beast RGB DDR5: Two minute review The Kingston Fury Beast RGB DDR5 RAM kit is one of the more competitively priced high-performance options on the market to date. With its ability to work with both AMD Expo and Intel XMP, and rates up to 6,000 MHz, you're certainly getting the strong flex of DDR5's capabilities without the massive price tags of more premium models available.  We're comfortable recommending the Kingston Fury Beast RGB DDR5 RAM as some of the best RAM for current-generation setups to help push other PCIe 5.0 components like the best graphics cards and the best SSDs . The price point means that it's somewhere in the mid-range of all the offerings, priced above the more wallet-friendly options and premium offerings.  With options starting from 8GB single module at 4800 MHz all the way up to 64GB (32GBx2) dual-channel 6,000 MHz, or quad-channel 128GB (32GBx4) at 5,600 MHz, you have a lot of options with your setup. This means you can go b...

JBL Quantum TWS review - stellar sound quality and style

Image
When it comes to quality gaming earbuds, JBL Quantum TWS fits the bill. The sound quality here is stellar, with solid construction and decent active noise canceling and ambient awareness modes. While there’s nothing that will necessarily wow you, this pair does enough to be considered some of the best gaming earbuds available.  Whether you’re gaming on PC, Nintendo Switch , or the PS5 , or using the JBL Quantum TWS for music on the go, you’ll find these gaming earbuds to be an all-around strong performer - just keep in mind that they are not compatible with the Xbox Series X . For those with compatible platforms though,  you could certainly do worse given the price-to-performance here.   Price and availability The JBL Quantum TWS gaming earbuds are available in the US, the UK, and Australia for $149.99 / £129.99 / AU$229, which puts them firmly in the mid-range of market availability. It is worth noting that these gaming earbuds are regularly discounted in the US, o...

Asus ROG Raikiri Pro review - luxurious but limited

Image
The Asus ROG Raikiri Pro can be considered one of the best PC controllers whether you’ve got a dedicated gaming PC, gaming laptop, or an Asus ROG Ally , and makes a strong impression with its stellar visual design. However, despite being designed for Xbox, with systems such as the Xbox Series X |S in mind, the limited wireless functionality holds it back from being considered one of the best Xbox controllers , especially for its price point.  It comes down to the fact that the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro cannot be used wirelessly on Xbox consoles, as you’re restricted to being plugged in via USB-C. With both an included wireless 2.4GHz dongle and Bluetooth inside, it’s a shame it’s not a catch-all for both platforms. Outside of this, with its OLED screen and RGB lighting, you’re getting a gamepad like no other, but paying a premium for the extra prettiness.  Price and availability The Asus ROG Raikiri Pro is available in the US, the UK, and Australia for $169.99 / £149.99 / AU$2...

Ride 5 review - one for the purists

Image
Review information Platform reviewed: PS5 Available on: PS5, Xbox Series X | S , PC Release date: August 24, 2023  Ride 5 is the latest in Milestone’s premiere motorcycling racing series which is running exclusively on current-generation hardware, and it looks and runs all the better for it. However, it brings relatively few new additions to the established formula, save for improvements to the dynamic weather system, a few more bikes, and split-screen racing. It’s a title that’s made first and foremost for dedicated racing enthusiasts for better or worse.  While some of the best racing games skirt a fine line between realistic simulation handling and arcade action, Ride 5 firmly establishes itself in the former camp in an unflinching and uncompromising way. You’re thrown into the deep end from the off - just like 2020 predecessor Ride 4 -  and must complete a few time trial laps before engaging with the rest of the title’s content. However, unlike the o...

Asus Tuf RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC review

Image
Asus Tuf RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC: 30 second review The Asus Tuf RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC has been billed as being "optimized inside and out for lower temps and durability", so this partner card features a massive heatsink and a quad-slot design made for overclocking with case space as no option.  Despite its slightly higher price and bigger overall size, I am comfortable considering this variant as not only one of the best 4K graphics cards but also one of the best graphics cards currently available.  It's not as much of a slam dunk as the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX which delivers phenomenal price-to-performance with its sleeker package. However, for those wanting to overclock and really push RDNA 3 to its limits, the Asus Tuf RX 7900 XTX Gaming OC excels in all the right places.  That shouldn't be entirely surprising considering it is built on the foundations of the best AMD graphics card . Given the extra bells and whistles, you're going to pay slightly more tha...

Nextorage NEM-PA 4TB review - The best high-capacity SSD for PS5

Image
While it may lack the same name-brand recognition as some other Gen 4 SSDs targeted for PS5 , the Nextorage NEM-PA can certainly keep up with the flagship models where it counts. Without question, it’s one of the best SSDs for PS5 that you can buy right now, and that’s because it’s bolstered by an excellently designed heatsink and some of the most consistent performance I’ve seen which scales with larger file transfers.  At a time when some of the best PS5 games are getting larger, some even pushing up to 100GB of space or more, the Nextorage NEM-PA excels with its competitive price per gigabyte. If you’ve been wanting the maximum amount of overhead allowed by the PS5 console then this is a definitive choice which is only made better by the fact that rates on Gen 4 SSDs continue getting cheaper.   Price and Availability The Nextorage NEM-PA is available in the US, the UK, and Australia, however, availability varies. It is most easily accessible to find in America with th...
