Google Wifi

Image
Google Wifi may not have been the first mesh router to hit the streets, but it’s certainly among the best. In fact, it somewhat set the standard for mesh routers, sporting a small, minimalist and modern design while being packed with impressive features and an affordable price tag. What’s more, Google Wifi is easy to install – you just need a mobile app to set it up and connect, making mesh routers a lot more approachable for the less network savvy users. It also just got a surprise refresh in June 2021 , making Google Wifi Gen 2 even cheaper than Google Wifi Gen 1, as well as the more premium Google Nest Wifi . So, whether you’re transitioning from a traditional router to a mesh system or you need something to give your slow network the proper boost it needs, it’s a perfect solution. Netgear Orbi or Samsung Connect Home may have gotten there first, but Google Wifi offers better value and price. Regardless of whether that price or performance is your priority, this mesh router i...

Ulefone Armor 11T 5G rugged FLIR smartphone

Thermal imaging is quickly becoming a favourite feature for top-of-the-range rugged smartphones . FLIR, now Teledyne FLIR after its acquisition by Teledyne Technologies, has now been rolled out on half-a-dozen rugged handsets from Cat, Blackview, Doogee and Ulefone. The latter sent us its latest flagship - the Armor 11T - that not only sports one of these Predator-style cameras but can also run on a 5G network. Pricing and availability At the time of writing, the Ulefone Armor 11T retails for just under $500 from online Chinese retailer, Banggood, with free shipping and the option to pay via Klarna in four interest-free payments. RIG 500 PRO HX Gen 2 headset review

Image
Two-minute review (Image credit: Future) The RIG 500 Pro HX Gen 2 makes a great first impression; it’s stylish, that steel band over the head does a great job at making the hardware feel more premium than it actually is, and when you pick the headset up, you’ll enjoy just how light and unobtrusive it feels. If you don’t mind an in-built cable that cannot be replaced if it breaks (a common theme in headsets that get daily use), this is a mid-tier bit of kit that will fit right in with any dedicated Xbox player’s setup. A partnership with the HX model means this headset specifically has been designed to work with Xbox Series X , Xbox Series S , Xbox One and Windows 10 – and that means it works with Dolby Atmos. Each new boxed headset comes with a two-year subscription to the service, meaning a good value headset gives you more bang for your buck if you’re thinking of combing through Xbox Game Pass and seeing which games support the 3D audio app. The headset may start to pin...

Asus Zenfone 8

Image
Two-minute review The Asus Zenfone 8 represents a paradigm shift for a flagship phone – not to higher prices and more features, but to greater affordability, with essential specs and strong cameras. It’s the kind of device phone brands like OnePlus used to release, and it’s just as welcome. Greater affordability inevitably comes with compromises though, and the Zenfone 8 misses out on out the feature that made its predecessor stand out: its flip camera, which enabled the Zenfone 7 to take rear-facing and selfie photos with the same set of lenses. You can still get this novel camera functionality, but only in a larger specialty version of the phone – the aptly-named Zenfone 8 Flip, which will be a limited release, cost more, and come in a single RAM and storage configuration.  Asus is envisioning the Zenfone 8 to be the standard version of the phone, with high-end specs in a variety of configurations – a top-tier Snapdragon 888 chipset and up to 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage...

Oral-B iO Series 9

Image
Two-minute review The Oral-B iO Series 9 not only gives an excellent clean, it also makes it refreshingly simple to develop better brushing habits. Feedback can be as simple or in-depth as you want. If you’re in a hurry, just watch yourself in the mirror and ensure that you maintain a steady colored light while brushing, straying into neither the blue zone (too little pressure) or red (too much). This smart pressure sensor is much more useful than one that simply tells you if you’re pressing too hard, and the way the brush head glides over your teeth makes it easy to cover each surface. Once you’re done, the brush’s color display will give you a quick heads-up in the form of a frowning, neutral or smiley face, and you can go about your day. When you want more in-depth feedback on your brushing, connecting the brush to the Oral-B Bluetooth app allows you to get real-time feedback as you move around each section of your mouth. The location detection isn’t quite perfect, but it’s imp...
