Lypertek SoundFree S20

Image
One-minute review If you’re looking for budget wireless earbuds , the Lypertek SoundFree S20 could be a great investment that’s easy on your bank balance.  Lypertek burst onto the wireless earbuds scene with the Lypertek PurePlay Z3 (formerly known as the Lypertek Tevi before a name change), which blew us away with their good audio performance, great design, and value for money at under $100 / £100.  Jump to Price and availability Design Audio performance Battery life and connectivity Should I buy them? The Lypertek SoundFree S20 are cheaper still, coming in at $69 / £69 (around AU$90), and undercutting popular true wireless earbuds like the Sony WF-1000XM3 and the Apple AirPods (2019) by a significant margin.  Despite their low price, it doesn’t feel like Lypertek has cut any corners with the SoundFree S20.  Their design intuitively includes physical buttons that allow you to control your music playback, and while the charging case does feel a l...

Sony WH-1000XM3 Wireless Headphones

Image
The Sony WH-1000XM3 wireless headphones are a superb pair of noise-cancelling headphones . Even though they’re a few years old and they've been usurped by the Sony WH-1000XM4 , they're still well worth buying. Whenever we’re asked about the best headphones to buy, the conversation often turns to a question of Sony vs. Bose . When it comes to the Sony WH-1000XM3 wireless headphones, there’s no competition. Bose has certainly done a tremendous job working out its noise cancellation algorithm over the years, while Sony has spent that time perfecting audio playback and simultaneously creating an adaptability algorithm that doesn’t just create a single sterile sound barrier, but multiple kinds that can adapt to whatever situation you’re in.  The best Sony headphones 2021: incredible cans to appeal to your inner audiophile That excellent combination seen in the Sony XM2s, compounded with subtle tweaks, including a more comfortable pad along the bridge of these wireless headph...

Garmin Venu

Image
Two-minute review The Garmin Venu is the first Garmin watch to feature an AMOLED display, and it's paired with a solid selection of fitness tracking and general smartwatch features that make this watch a great all-rounder. It's now been followed by the Garmin Venu 2 – an even more capable watch that we found hard to fault in our tests – but the original Venu is still an excellent option, particularly if the newer watch is outside your budget. Garmin might be known for active wristwear, but its fitness trackers and running watches have been edging ever closer to smartwatch territory. Take the Garmin Vivoactive 4 : with smart notifications, offline music, Garmin Pay and app support, the multi-sport ticker was just a few stops short of a fully blown smartwatch. The Garmin Venu aims to complete that evolution with the addition of an unmissable AMOLED touchscreen. Sharp and vibrant, the distinctive display tips the Venu firmly into smartwatch territory. And, as you’d expec...

Garmin Venu Sq

Image
Two-minute review The Garmin Venu Sq is a cheaper alternative to the Garmin Venu , giving you similar fitness tracker and smartwatch features, but now with a square display.  The Venu Sq is packing all the core sensors like built-in GPS, a heart rate monitor and also includes the very on trend pulse ox sensor. There’s dedicated modes for the likes of running, cycling and swimming to make it a solid sports tracking companion, though we found that picking up a GPS signal was a little on the sluggish side. It doesn’t scrimp on smartwatch features either, with the music edition (which we tested here) offering a built-in music player and all versions offering contactless payments and access to Garmin’s Connect IQ store to download apps and watch faces. The Venu Sq promises to do a lot, which does cause some problems with the way you get around the watch and it takes some getting used to how things work and where things live. What you really miss out from the main Venu is that mor...

Returnal review

Image
Review information Time Played : 33 hours Platform: PlayStation 5 Returnal is challenging. A pop-up before you start the game warns you of that, but it doesn’t mean you’ll be prepared. Developer Housemarque has blended the ever-changing levels and permadeath of roguelikes into a game that is otherwise a blockbuster third-person shooter, but what makes Returnal challenging isn’t simply the fact that it’s a ‘difficult’ roguelike, it’s the game's sheer unpredictability. Returnal is a game full of risky encounters that can mean the difference between a successful run and a more testing one, while players are constantly at the mercy of the loot they may – or may not – pick up, thanks to random generation. A lucky run with the right loot can mean the difference between success and failure, especially given that you have few persistent upgrades between runs (particularly in the earlier biomes, as the game’s six distinct environments are called), which can make it feel like you’r...
