Founded back in 2011, DroidVPN is a small and simple VPN for Android and – theoretically – Windows. The service website is basic and doesn't make much effort to boast about its features. We suspect most potential customers would like to know more about DroidVPN's servers, for instance, but there's no information about this on the front page or in the FAQ. The Server Status page reveals all, once you've found it, with multiple DroidVPN locations in Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Singapore, along with the UK and US. You might wonder if the service supports torrents, and again the answer is well hidden. We had to scan the terms of service to discover torrents were allowed, but only on specific servers. Want to try DroidVPN? Download it here Curious about protocol support? We were, too. Digging down to an old blog post revealed that DroidVPN uses its own proprietary VPN protocol. Worryingly, there's no information on how this works or what lev...

It’s hard finding a good roommate. Some leave dishes in the sink. Others stiff you on rent. But Google, or more specifically, the Google Assistant, isn’t like that at all. Everything considered and as far as roommates go, it’s actually one of the best you’ll ever have. (Update: Google Home and the smaller Google Home Mini are sure to be high up on the holiday lists of many as Black Friday and Cyber Monday come rolling through. That’s because Google Assistant, the smart artificial intelligence that’s built into the Google Home, actually makes life easier rather than more difficult for you. You can ask it to lower the thermostat for you when you leave, diagnose your symptoms when you’re feeling il...

Opera VPN is a simple and entirely free virtual private network ( VPN ) powered by Toronto-based SurfEasy . You don't get the same level of features as SurfEasy's commercial products – which is no surprise for a free service – but it's still good to know the VPN comes from an experienced provider. Opera's network looks small, at least initially, with only five regions available: Canada, US, Netherlands, Germany and Singapore. But that should still ensure most users have a location near them, and with more than 500 servers available there's plenty of privacy-preserving capacity here. The simplest way to access the service is via the Opera browser, which is available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. That's convenient, but it only protects what you're doing in Opera. Other browsers or internet-enabled applications won't be covered. Opera VPN's Android and iOS apps are more capable, encrypting all connections system-wide. Torrents aren't...
FIIL DRIIFTER

Wireless headphones have come a long way. Just a couple of years ago, wireless headphones were to be avoided like the plague due to poor connection, short battery life and bad sound quality. Today, that’s all changed. While the $99 (about £75 or AU$130) FIIL DRIIFTER aren’t exactly in the budget wireless headphone camp, they do offer a lot of value for the money. For the price, you get an extremely lightweight and comfortable headphone, aptX codec support, multipoint pairing and an 10-hour battery life. However, all that said, the DRIIFTER is far from flawless. In fact, its overwhelming bass-heavy sound signature means only bass-lovers should consider these headphones. While fun in short spurts, the thundering bass can get grating, especially if you like to listen to genres other than hip hop, electronic or pop. Design As you can clearly see, the FIIL DRIIFTER are neckband earbuds, which means a majority of the weight is distributed across your neck. This makes th...

If you're wearing a Fitbit right now there's a good chance it's a Fitbit Charge or a Fitbit Charge HR on your wrist – but there's now a new Fitbit in town. The Fitbit Charge 2 is the first upgrade to the popular Charge range since the Charge HR, which appeared early in 2015. The Fitbit Charge 2 brings with it a couple of new features, and along with features we've seen before on the Charge HR, the Fitbit Alta and the Fitbit Blaze , it adds up to an impressive-looking package. Fitbit specializes in accessible and easy to use fitness trackers, rather than more complicated running and fitness technology. With exercise, sleep, heart rate tracking and much more, the Charge 2 looks like a well-specced wearable that won't break the bank. Fitbit Charge 2 price and release date The cheapest Charge 2 starts at $150 (£129.99, AU$250) We've seen the price drop as low as $129 or £89.99 Leather straps are expensive at $69.95 (£59.99, AU$119.95) The original ...
