Miasma Chronicles review - trapped in post-apocalyptic potential

Image
Review information Time played:  20 hours Platform reviewed:  PC Available on:  PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC Black reflective fragments swarm and spiral in the opening scenes of strategy game Miasma Chronicles , luring you into a dim and grim post-apocalyptic Kentucky. The game confidently strides into its setting with this beautifully animated sequence which lays the foundation for much of what’s to come in the game - and more so, perhaps, than its developers, The Bearded Ladies, had bargained for. Established in these early scenes of the game are its priorities; narrative and worldbuilding, character development, and aesthetics. Important characteristics, yes, though not necessarily mutually exclusive to producing a great strategy RPG (SRPG?) You meet the protagonist, Elvis, and his robo-bro, Diggs, in this greyscale setting, and through clunky exposition and enthusiastic (if not slightly corny) line delivery, they are introduced as charming, quirky, and

Garmin Fenix 7 Pro hands-on review: More of the same, but that’s no bad thing

Image
This is a hands-on review to bring you our early impressions of the new Garmin Fenix &S Pro. Stay tuned, as we'll be expanding and updating this article with more info soon. Garmin has unveiled its Garmin Fenix 7 Pro and Garmin Epix Pro watches. These updated versions of the Garmin Fenix 7 and Garmin Epix (Gen 2) retain everything that makes them some of the best Garmin watches , namely by changing only a few things and adding a handful of useful new features.  We’ll dive into exactly what’s new about the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro below – and those hoping for a fully-fledged redesign a la the Garmin Forerunner 265 and 965 might come away disappointed. Those of you who already own a Fenix 7 are unlikely to feel strongly moved to buy another watch.  But as a premium outdoors watch in its own right, the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro looks set to excel as a wonderful example of outdoor smart tech, and in our brief time with the wearable, I’ve found nothing to disprove that so far.   Garmin F

Netgear Nighthawk M6 Pro Wi-Fi Router Review

Image
Two-minute review Netgear’s Orbi range of mesh Wi-Fi router systems already includes a model that can use 5G mobile broadband as a fail-safe option if you ever lose your standard broadband connection. However, the company also makes several dedicated mobile routers as part of its high-performance Nighthawk brand, which can provide a quick and easy Wi-Fi network when traveling or working outdoors or just in case of a sudden broadband outage at home or in the office. The latest addition to the Nighthawk range is the Nighthawk M6 Pro. It’s a top-of-the-range option – with a top-of-the-range price to match – but it supports both 5G mobile broadband and the latest Wi-Fi 6E technology. This allows it to create its own Wi-Fi network using the new 6.0GHz frequency band and the standard 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz bands used by Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6 routers. It also provides high-speed wired connections too, via both Ethernet and USB-C. The built-in rechargeable battery should last for around 13 hours

Lenovo Legion Y32P-30 Gaming Monitor review: Thirty-two inches of visual glory

Image
Lenovo Legion Y32P-30: Two-minute review Let’s get one thing out of the way – the Lenovo Legion Y32P-30 is expensive. There’s really not much to complain about this monitor, unless you need a much higher refresh rate, a larger screen, or a more impressive HDR. This model makes for a great gaming monitor and is just as great for productivity. But, you have to pay quite a bit to get it. Many, but not all, of the best 4K monitors are at least a couple hundred dollars/pounds cheaper. You don’t have to drop that kind of money to get one of the best gaming monitors . That said, getting a 32-inch 4K monitor with a 144Hz refresh rate right now is not a cheap proposition. For example, the Corsair Xeneon 32UHD144 , which shares a lot of the same specs including decent but not great HDR as well as size, resolution, and refresh rate, almost hits that painful $1,000 / £1,000 mark. So, if you can swallow the fact that you’ll be dropping quite a bit of hard-earned cash on a display like this, th

Original Prusa MK4 3D Printer Review

Image
The Original Prusa MK4 is the latest iteration of the popular open-source 3D printing workhorse manufactured by Prusa Research. The MK4 provides high-speed 3D printing with ease and is incredibly reliable, much like its predecessors. However, the MK4 adds many new features that make it stand out, both from its predecessors and competitors in the market. (Image credit: Alastair Jennings // Future) One of the most exciting features of the MK4 is the Loadcell sensor that allows the printer to lay down a smooth and consistent first layer automatically without any user input. It also has a next-gen extruder (Nextruder) and a 32-bit connected platform that enables many new features and future expandability. (Image credit: Alastair Jennings // Future) The MK4's firmware also includes the implementation of Input Shaper and Pressure Advance technologies, allowing the printer to eliminate resonance in prints and predict the flow of the filament. This results in a significa

Anycubic Kobra 2 3D Printer Review

Image
As an update to the Kobra machines, the Kobra 2 is an exciting prospect. As with its predecessor, the Kobra 2 offers an affordable yet high-quality and fast 3D printer. Boosting the already impressive performance of the Kobra, the upgraded tool head, electronics, and other mechanical changes are all there to help to boost speed, reliability, and print quality. The Anycubic LeviQ 2.0 auto bed leveling system is a stand-out feature designed to make the leveling process as easy and trouble-free as possible. The system uses an inductive sensor to detect distance or gaps on the print platforms without direct contact and automatically compensates for irregularities.  (Image credit: Alastair Jennings // Future) Then there's the dual-gear direct drive extruder that ensures compatibility with various materials, such as PLA, TPU, ABS, and PETG, making it a versatile option for home users, education, and even small business. The heated magnetic print platform should ensure excellen

Diablo 4 review - paradise regained

Image
Review Information Time Played: 24 hours Reviewed on: PC  Available on: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC I arrive in a remote village, my body beset by numbing cold. To my relief, the villagers welcome me, and, after I help them with a pesky demon problem, we share a few drinks. It’s a relieving, feel-good moment, which would be more than enough in a traditional fantasy story. However, Diablo 4 is its own beast.  I pass out. It turns out that the village is full of cultists, and I was drugged at the drinks celebrating my heroism. A priest, whom I’d written off as a panic-stricken civilian, comes to my aid, and the two of us fight our way out of the village – make quick work of the duplicitous locals with whom I’d broken bread not moments ago.  I survive, but there's a grim feeling in the pit of my stomach that I just can’t shake. Threats are everywhere in the world of Diablo 4 , and safety is fleeting. This pervasive sense of peril adds a s
